About Basically Beethoven Hallam Concerts
The Basically Beethoven Hallam Concerts are monthly on Saturday afternoons at 3 o'clock, October - May (excluding December) and last roughly an hour. During the 2024 - 2025 season, all will be held at Central Commons, 4711 Westside Drive in Dallas. They are completely free of charge and open to all ages. Each concert features local professional performers who play in a wide range of ensembles.
This series is generously sponsored by Fanchon & Howard Hallam. We are grateful to them as well as to many others who give of their time and resources to make our concerts a reality. Your contributions help us keep these concerts free for all.
This concert series began in 1984 as Bancroft Family Concerts through a partnership with the Dallas Museum of Art. The free admission and daytime time slot of the concerts were expressly chosen to support FACP’s commitment to provide professional chamber music to those who would not traditionally be able to attend—particularly older adults and families with children. For nearly four decades, the concerts have consistently attracted full-capacity audiences. Musicians frequently include members of the Dallas and Fort Worth symphonies, the Dallas Opera orchestra, other professional ensembles, and faculty members from local universities such as Southern Methodist University and the University of North Texas.
We are indebted to the past work of Emily Levin, Artistic Director of the Fine Arts Chamber Players' Hallam Family Concert series from 2019 - 2024.
About the
Basically Beethoven Festival
Free, classical music concerts on Sundays in July at 2:30 pm in a welcoming environment for all ages.
The Basically Beethoven Festival was Fine Arts Chamber Players’ inaugural concert series. Since 1981, the Festival has provided North Texas with free chamber music concerts during the month of July, a traditionally slow time for arts events in Dallas. The Festival features professional musicians from local ensembles performing a diverse range of music.
Every program begins with a Rising Star recital spotlighting local, gifted young musicians, many of whom are winners of area music contests and concerto competitions; followed by the Feature Performance showcasing professional musicians from across the Metroplex.
Admission is free and performances fulfill Basically Beethoven’s commitment to produce classical music concerts with no barriers to attendance. Performances are enjoyed by longtime arts patrons and attendees who are new to classical music. Families with children in particular might find the Festival a good fit. If young children get fidgety, we have a table set up in the lobby with paper, crayons, coloring books, and children's books where they can be creative while listening to the concert.
Since the pandemic, we now offer recordings of these concerts on our YouTube channel HERE.
We are indebted to the past work of Dr. Alex McDonald, Festival Director of the Fine Arts Chamber Players' Basically Beethoven Festival from 2015 - 2023.
