The Charles Barr Memorial Concert celebrates the legacy of Dallas bassist Charles Barr and showcases the next generation of DFW musical talent.

Performers:

Christian Luevano, Bass

Yurie Iwasaki, Piano

Christian Luevano began his double bass studies at the age of 5 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. At the age of 7, he moved to Denton, Texas where he studied with Gudrun Raschen and Jeff Bradetich. He began studying at the Curtis Institute of Music in 2022 and currently studies with Hal Robinson and Edgar Meyer.

Christian was a semi-finalist in the 2024 Sphinx Competition and has been a prize winner in competitions associated with the Philadelphia International Music Festival, Dallas Symphony, and Fort Worth Symphony. In 2022, Christian was featured as a fellow with NPR’s From the Top, and also performed the world premiere of a concerto by renowned bassist and composer, Andres Martin, that was commissioned for him.

In 2019, Christian attended the Perlman Music Program and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra in 2021 and 2022 where he toured Europe with the ensemble. He recently performed at Carnegie Hall with the National Youth Orchestra “All-Stars." Last summer, Christian was an Orchestral Leadership Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival, and this summer he will be playing his first season with the Grant Park Festival Orchestra.
