Bancroft Family Concerts, 2016 - 2017 Season:

free series promises unique, exhilarating programs

We proudly announces the 2016 - 2017 season of our free Bancroft Family Concert Series. Held in the Horchow Auditorium at the Dallas Museum of Art (1717 N. Harwood Street, Dallas 75201), all programs begins at 3 p.m. on selected Saturday afternoons with doors opening at 2:30 p.m. All concerts are FREE TO THE PUBLIC with no tickets required. These seven unique and exhilarating programs provide an opportunity for entire families to experience inspired, virtuosic playing by the Dallas area’s top professional musicians for no charge. Families with children are welcome. 

Opening on Saturday, October 15, the season kicks off with a quartet of harpists, led by Dallas Symphony Orchestra harpist Emily Levin, performing chamber music for their towering string instruments. Other concert highlights include the award-winning Haven Trio presenting a world premiere; DSO musicians alongside their protégés performing octets by Haydn and Mozart; Mozart's Sonata for Bassoon and Cello KV 292 and a chamber arrangement of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15, first movement; Brahms’ brilliant Horn Trio; FACP’s collaboration with Cliburn in the Community and Fort Worth Symphony musicians, showcasing Erik Korngold’s Suite for Two Violins, Cello, and Piano (left hand); and the Cézanne Quartet playing Schubert, Mozart, and Bartok at the 11th annual Charles Barr Memorial Concert.

October 15, Harps in Harmony: A dazzling quartet of Dallas' newest professional harpists led by recently appointed Dallas Symphony Orchestra harpist Emily Levin gather to perform harp chamber music.

November 12, Haven Trio - WORLD PREMIERE: The award-winning ensemble premieres TWINGE by Jon Magnussen, a 45-minute song cycle that tells the survival stories of six people who endured the Indonesian tsunami in December 2004. The performance incorporates images of the tsunami, which may contain strong thematic elements.

January 28, Passing the Torch: Dallas Symphony musicians perform side-by-side with their protégés in woodwind octets by Haydn and Mozart.

February 25, Fragments of the Past and Present: The afternoon features Mozart's Sonata for Bassoon and Cello KV 292 and the first movement of Shostakovich's chamber arrangement of Symphony No. 15 in A major.

March 25, Brahms Trio: Violinist Filip Fenrych and horn player Yousef Assi, both of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, join concert pianist Zahari Metchkov for a spectacular performance of Brahms' beloved Horn Trio in E-flat Major, op. 40.

April 15, The Cliburn in Concert—part of the Cliburn in the Community program: This performance features award-winning pianist Claire Huangci in Erich Korngold’s dynamic Suite for Two Violins, Cello, and Piano (left hand), op. 23 which was commissioned by pianist Paul Wittgenstein after losing an arm in World War I. After the concert, visit the DMA’s Wittgenstein Vitrine, a jewel-encrusted masterpiece of early 20th century Viennese design once owned by the Wittgenstein family.

May 13, The Cézanne Quartet: The Charles Barr Memorial Concert features the Cézanne Quartet, Peak Fellowship Ensemble- in-Residence at SMU Meadows School of the Arts, performing music by Schubert, Mozart, and Bartok. 

Bancroft Family Concerts are made possible in part by Sue and Christopher Bancroft, Dallas Museum of Art, Union Pacific Foundation, City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, TACA, Texas Commission on the Arts, and AlphaGraphics-Carrollton. Since its inception in 1981, FACP has provided music education experiences for more than 215,000 children and performed for over a half-million residents of North Texas. In addition to the Bancroft Family Concerts, FACP presents the free Basically Beethoven Festival in July at Dallas City Performance Hall.
