Record-Breaking Attendance at Basically Beethoven Festival 2024

DALLAS (August 1, 2024) – Fine Arts Chamber Players, now known as Basically Beethoven, is thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the 2024 Basically Beethoven Festival, with a record-breaking total of 1608 patrons attending the three free concerts held at Moody Performance Hall. This marks an impressive increase in attendance compared to last year, with an average of 536 attendees per concert—33 more patrons per concert than in the previous year.

Despite hosting one fewer concert this year due to the 4th of July weekend, the festival achieved higher overall attendance, showcasing the growing popularity and community support for this beloved annual event. The festival, now in its 43rd year, continues to offer free, high-quality chamber music performances featuring Dallas’ top professional musicians and rising stars.

Executive Director Morgan Vaughan expressed her gratitude and excitement, saying, "We are overjoyed by the community's enthusiastic response to this year's festival. Our mission to provide free concerts and music education is only possible through the unwavering support of our patrons, sponsors, and community partners. This year's increase in attendance reaffirms our commitment to enriching the cultural landscape of Dallas."

The festival featured three captivating concerts:

  • Sunday, July 14 - “Back To Basically” - Pianist Jack Roueche opened the festival as the first Rising Star, followed by Featured Performers Lakeway Chamber Players & Friends.

  • Sunday, July 21 - “Blow, Winds!” -  Rising Stars Tenor Diego Roberts Buceta, Soprano Alexandra Cook and Collaborative Pianist Kara Solis wowed the audience with arias and a musical theater classic, and The Lone Star Wind Orchestra Wind Quintet delivered an incredibly memorable featured performance with Artist Amy Stokes painting a watercolor live onstage set to “Summer Music.”

  • Sunday, July 28 - “Grand Pianos” - Rising Star Noah DeGarmo's recital set the stage for the grand finale by featured pianist Eldred Marshall, who performed Beethoven’s “Diabelli Variations.”

The concerts, recorded and available online later this summer, further extend the reach of Basically Beethoven’s mission to provide free access to world-class music. Links to the recordings will be available on Basically Beethoven’s website and YouTube channel in September.

The Basically Beethoven Raffle returned this year with prizes the proceeds of which will benefit BB Music Residencies, including personally signed copies of "The Enchanted Symphony" and “Waiting in the Wings” by Dame Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton, and artwork created live during the July 21st concert.

The 2024 Basically Beethoven Festival was generously sponsored by Capital One, with the vital support of The City of Dallas Office of Arts & Culture, The Arts Community Alliance (TACA), Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA), Moody Fund for the Arts, community support from DART, and individual donors.
